When translating sports news, we need to know several things that may happen in the process of editing the organization of sports news. Sports news has its own features including fast, short, concise and huge information content. We need to avoid the literal translation which will be mentioned in the end of this thesis. We should pick out the most typical words and sentence to rebuild then organize them in a good order.

In English-Chinese translation, we cannot translate literally and directly. In Chinese writing style, the writer firstly cites the background and the conditions before the main body. But in English, the main content should be put in front of the conditions. Sometimes, a Chinese word can be translated into several English words while a English word usually be translated into the same Chinese meaning. The word “winner” and “loser” don not mean win or lose. When we talk about that a athlete is the winner, we do not mean that he makes others lose.

In some translation versions, mistakes always were made in translating the sporting slogans. Such as the famous slogan “One world, one dream.” The original version goes to “世界同梦”, however this version is lack of beautiful and smoothness. The suitable version is “同一个世界，同一个梦想”

4.Translation methods and skills in English Sports News
Yan Fu, the famous Chinese scholar and translator, came up with the notable three principles as “Faithfulness, Expressiveness and elegance”. This principle is known by the world?s translators for its concise summary.
With his great contribution, people see Yan Fu as the most influential translator in Chinese. Over several generations? passing of the three principle, translators over the world start to put forward many new theories greatly making the theory of translation rich.
4.1 Free Translation and Literal Translation
Literal translation and free translation are two common and main method of translation. The two methods are both to make the version of translation accuracy. In the English-Chinese translation, the translators not only bear the responsibility of transmit the message from the original text, but also to make the target text smoothness.
4.1.1 Literal Translation
Literal translation is one of the most important method of translation. It has many merits while existing disadvantages. With using literal translation, the meaning and the style of the original news could be delivered. The merits as follows:
(1) The literal translation retains the original style and leave readers the initiative.
For example, during the World Cup chasing game, the Brazil lose its place and be eliminated from the first 18 teams. The Brazilian cannot accept such shame. They say the players as coward. In Chinese version, Chinese translator divide into two versions “懦夫” and “胆小如鼠”. Although both of the two version are correct. The first one is the literal version. Obviously, the disappointment of the first one is much more stronger than the latter. The latter “胆小如鼠” should be translated into “timid”

which cannot express the emotion of the original report.
Literal translation could keep the cultural features of original text promoting the cross-cultural communication.
For example, the English version goes “Kill two birds with one stone”, there is an old Chinese saying goes “一石二鸟”. Another example is that the English version is “The soldier who retreated fifty paces laughed at the one who had fallen back a hundred paces.” while the Chinese version is obvious “五十步笑百步”. Why such matching translation so close? The reason is that our culture has transmitted from the vast land to the land over the ocean.
If no one translated these old sayings literally, how the foreigners know the story of “五十步笑百步”? Through the literal version, the people without cultural background could know its meaning.
Although there are so many merits in using literal translation, and in the English sports news translation, we need to know that sports news have enormous terms. When we translate these terms, the literal translation is needed.
In addition, the problem of choosing the two methods is depended on the context.
4.1.2 Free Translation
Free translation refers to get rid of the original constrain in the premises of following the original text. By reading the text above and the contrast between the literal translation and free translation. In this section, I will cite several examples to elaborate free translation
In the final champion chasing game of NBA in 2011, there was a news title went like this: The Rocket falls down the Lake, bad news travels quickly. The “bad news travels quickly” literally means “坏消息传的快”, we all know there is a Chinese old saying as “好事不出门，坏事传千里” We automatically connect the these two sayings. The original text refers to the Huston team was beat by the Lakers and the news of losing games for Huston fun has spread out in a very short time.
