Now many young people are traveling around the world on their own, not because they have no one to travel with, but because they prefer to go alone.

Kristina Wegscheider from California first traveled alone when she was at college and believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life.”It opens your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfortable zone,” Wegscheider said. She has visited 46 countries covering all seven continents.

In foreign countries , with no one to help you read a map, look after you when you get ill, or lend you money if your wallet is stolen, it is challenging. This is what drives young people to travel alone. It is seen as character building and a chance to prove that they can make it on their own.

Chris Richardson decided to leave his sales job in Australia to go traveling last year. He set up a website, The Aussie Nomad, to document his adventures. He said he wished he had traveled alone earlier. “The people you meet, the place you visit, or the things you do, everything is up to you and it forces you to grow as a person,” said the 30-year-old man. Richardson describes traveling alone as “a shot in the arm” , which makes you a more confident person that is ready to deal with anything. He said, “The feeling of having conquered(征服)something on my own is a major part of what drives me each day when I am dealing with a difficult task. I walk around with my head up because I know that nothing is impossible if you try.”

The great 19 century explorer John Muir said, “Only by going alone in silence can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness.”

How to bring nature to your school---in a big way!

Interested in building a schoolyard habitat(生物园)?Here’s how to get started. Gather a team

Students can do a lot on their own, but you will need adults for a project this big. Get teachers, parents, and even the headmaster interested. Don’t forget the maintenance(维护) staff---they know more about your school’s yard than anyone else and can give you lots of help. Map your site

Which part of the schoolyard can you turn into a habitat? Is there an unused corner of the playground? You will need to make a map of the area showing what’s there now. Then you can figure out how you want to change it. For that, you need a plan. Plan a habitat

Here’s what you will need to make your area attractive to wildlife.

Food: Plant flowers and trees. These provide foods for birds, insects, and small animals. You can also add some feeders for squirrels and birds. Where possible, stick with native plants----wild plants that grow naturally in your area. They need less care, which means less work for you.

Water: A small pond, birdbath, or even a dish of clean water in the ground will
