Taking care of ourselves This kind of system can remind carers (护理员) through a screen on a wall. The device (装置) sends carers tasks, for example, when the patients need to take medicine. It can even tell carers if there’s any unusual activity in the home that could cause problems to patients.

Most of us must have been under this situation. You re on the way to meeting your friends when you suddenly ask yourself, “Did I remember to turn off the lights?” For those with “smart homes(智能家居)”, however, this wouldn't be a problem.

Over the past few years, smart homes have become popular. Thanks to user-friendly smart products(产品), people can control nearly every electrical item(电器) in their homes from anywhere in the world. For example, all of our lights can be controlled through our phones and computers. Our TV is controllable too.

While smart homes aren't new, companies like Philips, Amazon and Xiaomi have brought more automation(自动化) to them with new products. The smart home system(系统) really has many meaningful uses which make life much easier. So, for those who have already “gone smart”, will it ever be possible to go back to do things in the old way? It would be like going back to a world without mobile phones. Maybe possible, but quite difficult.

Saving energy & money It is clear that this kind of system can be used to save energy. It also saves money. In Norway, it costs 1 million kroner (0. 79 million yuan) per year to support someone in a care home, while this system costs only 15,000 kroner a year. 96. How can people control the electrical items in their homes far away?

The way we spend our time can be put into three “bottles”. These are the necessary tasks bottle, the voluntary tasks bottle and the happiness bottle.

Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks bottle. We fill this bottle with useful things, like making money, doing housework, buying food and paying bills. We then fill another bottle with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them. This bottle is filled with tasks like taking children to activities and cooking family meals. Those bottles are very important. If we don’t fill them each day, our family won’t run properly.

However, we often forget to fill the third bottle --- the happiness bottle. This is the bottle that we fill with activities that make us happy. Is your happiness bottle sometimes empty at the end of the day? We are busy doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks. That is why we forget to fill the happiness bottle.

We should try to fill our happiness bottle. Most days, I fill mine by going to the dancing class. I always leave the class happier than when I entered. And also playing music is another way that I fill my happiness bottle. This week, I was happy to take part in an orchestra (管弦乐队) practice at my church. A small group of us met to practice Christmas music. It was a time of fun, friendship and music making. At the end of the evening, my happiness bottle was full.

Then think about how your time is spent. Try to find ways to achieve a balance. At the end of the day, hopefully we’ve done all we can to make sure that our happiness bottle is filled. 96. How many kinds of bottles are mentioned in this passage?

____________________________________________________________________________ 97. What will happen if we don’t fill the necessary tasks bottle and the voluntary task bottle? ___________________________________________________________________________ 98. Happiness is a feeling that lights up your eyes, makes your steps light and makes you want to sing for no reason. Everyone wants to be happy. But sometimes, a guest comes in without invitation. It’s unhappiness. Don’t let it get you down. Send it away.

When you are happy, the world feels like a better place. As the saying goes: When you smile, the world smiles with you; when you cry, you cry alone. Wearing a smile makes you more charming(迷人的)and helps you to win lots of friends. A good mood(心情)always gives you hope, which makes trouble and problems easier to handle.

No matter how happy you are, it’s normal to feel angry, sad or gloomy once in a while. . We can’t change the way life is, but we can do our best to change a bad situation into a good one. To help us do this, it’s good to know some of the factors(因素)that influence happiness.

One of the biggest factors is social relationships. People who are close to family and friends are happier than people who don’t have those relationships. Talking and sharing is a good way to relax and build confidence. Knowing someone is there for you will make you braver and more outgoing.

Another factor is work or school. If you enjoy school, even if you have lots of homework or extra classes, you will feel that your school life is meaningful and happy. But if you hate school, your negative attitude(消极的态度)may cause you to feel bored and upset that you hate to do so much work.

A third factor is your attitude towards life. How do you feel if you fail in an exam? Maybe you think it’s unfair because you always study and should have got a good mark. You can’t stop
