SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1. Safety glasses should be worn at all times.

METHOD 1. Four (4) samples will be taken from the upper half of the sidewall at 90° intervals around the circumference of the bottle. The area to be tested should be as flat as possible. Avoid mold seams,

blisters, obvious streaks, etc. The test swatch should be of sufficient size to cover the light path opening in the sample compartment of the spectrophotometer and of reasonably uniform thickness in the area of the light path.

2. Using the glass cutter or saw, score or cut the borders of a sample from the bottle as described in Item

1. If using a cutter, use the bottle \

Generally, it may be beneficial to section the bottle in large pieces, then remove the test swatch from one of the larger

pieces. (Example: remove the bottom and neck of a LNNR bottle leaving the cylindrical sidewall.

Score and break this piece until desired sample is obtained.) Make sure any chips along the edge of the swatch will not be within the instrument light path.

3. For purpose of determining redness ratio, measure the thickness of one of the four test swatches using

the micrometer. Measurement should be taken at the point or area where the beam strikes the sample. The average of three readings should be obtained.

4. Place the sample in the Spectrophotometer light path according to instrument manufacturer’s

instructions. The glass swatch should be oriented such that the concave side of the glass is facing the source beam. If using a cuvet holder, the window of the holder should be completely covered by the

glass and the glass should be perpendicular to the source beam. This procedure insures that the beam completely passes through the glass to obtain a true transmission reading and to minimize the amount of reflectance.

4. 按照仪器使用手册把样品放在分光光度计光路上。 样品放置方位为凹面朝向光柱。 如果用固定器,固定器窗口应被玻片完全覆盖,玻片应与光柱垂直。本程序确保光柱完全通过玻片以得到真实透光率读数最小化反射影响。

5. Take the transmittance reading in the normal manner. 5 以常规方读取透光值。

6. Record actual light transmission readings at T550 and T650 6. 记录T550 和 T650 下的实际透光值。

7. Determine redness ratio for the swatch on which thickness was measured. For redness ratio

calculation use the \ percent transmittance reading at the measured thickness to the percent transmittance reading at standard thickness (in most cases 3.18 mm).
