All pilot ladders are to be clearly identified and records of maintenance retained. 所有在船引水梯必须清晰标注存放位置，维修保养记录存船备查。
a) Before use ,Vessel shall check the condition of the ladder and ensure it is rigged complying with SOLAS
Chapter V, regulation 23 / IMO Resolution MSC308(88) ADOPTION OF AMENDMENTS FOR SOLAS, 1974, AS AMENDED.
Pilot ladders are checked thoroughly before every use.
Ensure proper stowage of the pilot ladders to prevent it from fouling, wear and formation of ice. Ensure all Pilot ladders are placed in a sheltered area or covered when not in use.

Check for signs of wear and tear or signs of damages. Clear any present dirt and dust. Ensure the steps and ropes are free of oil, grease and paint. Ensure chokes and guard rings are present and in good condition.
Ensure vessel has enough spares to repair the ladder in case of deterioration or damage
检查污渍或者损伤，清除污渍或者表面赃物。确保踏板及侧绳没有油渍，牛油和油漆。确保绳结及哽块完好无损。确保一旦引水梯损坏或者状态不佳时船舶有足够的备件进行及时修理。
Pilot ladders to be stretched on deck and thoroughly examined for wear tear, damage and deterioration.
Check the condition of the side ropes including the condition of the core. Check the condition of the man ropes including the condition of the core. Check the condition of the each step Check the condition of each Spreaders
Measure the distance between side ropes and also between each step Check all chokes and guard rings are good condition
Ensure securing shackles are rust-free and are of appropriate SWL Ensure securing points on deck are corrosion free and hammer tested
Check the stanchions and stanchions securing points are rust-free and in good condition
If any defects or damaged noted, vessel shall change the affected part/s immediately. Master / Chief Officer shall ensure the condition of the pilot ladder is always without any deficiency or damage before every use.
