It was in New Hampshire. Cody was an 11-year-old boy. Just like other boys, he enjoyed running around the lake,__and sometimes picked yellow daisies for his mother's kitchen table along the paths. But the thing he liked best was fishing. He went fishing whenever he had got a chance and he was proud of his fishing skills.
On the day before that year's bass(鲈鱼) season opened, he and his father were fishing early in the evening, catching sunfish and perch with worms. Then he tied on a small silver lure(鱼饵) and practised casting. The lure hit the water, stirring up coloured ripples in the sunset, and then silver ripples as the moon rose over the lake. It was an unusually quiet evening. The gentle wind from the lake was so refreshing.
After what seemed a long time, Cody noticed his fishing pole doubled over, and he knew at once that something huge was on the other end. His father watched with admiration as the boy skilfully brought the fish beside the bank.
Finally, he very carefully lifted the exhausted fish from the water. It was the largest one he had ever seen, but it was a bass.
The boy and his father looked at the handsome fish, gills playing back and forth in the moonlight. The father lit a match and looked at his watch. It was 10 pm—two hours before the season opened. He looked at the bass, then at Cody.
“You'll have to put the fish back, son，” he said. “Dad！” cried the boy.
“There will be other fish，”said his father gently but firmly． “Not as big as this one，”cried the boy again. 注意：

That night was soft and warm as I lay on the sofa in our living room, staring at the ceiling. I was thinking of the hospital. We had gone there that afternoon to visit my father for Valentine's Day. Daddy was in a high bed that was folded in half some way. He looked alright to me. I didn't know why he kept going to that place anyway.
I sat as quietly as possible. My trouble was that I wanted to hug him and I was afraid of what Mama would say if I climbed up on his bed to do it. I didn't know why she would mind—I only knew she would. Sometimes she said I was too rough. I didn't know the meaning of her words. I was such a little girl and Daddy was so big—how could I hurt him? I thought there must be some other reasons why he couldn't play with me like he used to. Maybe he was too tired．
My parents talked for a long time while I looked out of the window and played with my brother__and__sister. I didn't like that place and I wanted to go. There didn't seem to be anything to do there. Then，all at once，we were leaving. Daddy called me to his bedside and told me to be sure to say my prayers. I said I would and kissed him quickly on the cheek. Then I was glad to leave that building. The people there were sick…except，of course，my daddy. He was not sick at all.
As I settled comfortably into the depths of the sofa，deep in thought, I was startled by the shrill sound of the telephone. That made me angry—now Mama would get up and find I was not sleeping yet. Why did somebody have to call then anyway?

The wedding for Michael and Millie was scheduled to be held in a remote church and that meant a long drive through the heavy traffic on a busy weekend.
Storm warnings had been posted for several days, but the bride and groom were not about to cancel their wedding. Their good friends May and Ben were in the same car, companying them all the way.
Traffic had been blocked by the time they got to the toll booth(收费站)on the highway. People started leaving their cars and heading for the nearby restaurant. They decided to do the same.
Inside the crowded restaurant, they found a table and asked for four cups of hot coffee. May hugged Millie tightly,__who was in bad mood and almost in tears. “I am so sorry，” Millie said to May and Ben. “Please forgive our insist, but today is indeed a special day for Michael and me.We really don't want to change another day for our wedding.” “ That is nothing. Be happy! I only want to say that these kinds of things are not supposed to happen when there is a wedding, terrible weather and the traffic，” May responded.
“But where is Michael？”asked Millie suddenly, looking around at the crowd．
“He was talking to the minister about the details of the wedding，” replied Ben mysteriously. “Just make yourselves comfortable,__folks，” said the manager of the restaurant. “You may be here for a long time, and just enjoy the free coffee here provided by the handsome groom Michael！”
The whole audience burst into stormy applause．
A little while later, Millie heard Michael's voice behind her. “Sometimes we have to dance in the wind.” He took her hands and hugged her in his arms.

Risha loved school. However, there was one class Risha worried about more than any other—art. She didn't know why she just wasn't any good at drawing, painting, or cutting.

But this announcement made Risha nervous. “Everyone in the school will create a piece of artwork to show in the library. “I understand this project scared you, Risha，” Ms Clay said. “Just remember, you can create any kind of art you want.” Ms Clay smiled at her. “Art is a person's way of expressing his or her feelings—it isn't always painting, drawing, or cutting.
