Once again, I was at a new school. So was a girl in my class named Paris. That was where the similarities ended.

I was tall and she was small. I was one of the oldest in the class while she was the youngest. My hair was thick, short and ugly while hers was long and beautiful. I was awkward and shy. She wasn't. I couldn't stand her, considering her my enemy. But she wanted to be friends. One day, she invited me over and I said yes – I was too shocked to say no. Actually, no one had invited me over to play before. But this girl, who wore the latest fashions, wanted to see me.

She lived on the fourth floor in a two-room place with her mother, her stepfather, her two brothers and her sister. When we got to the room she shared with her sister, she took out a big case of Barbies – which was my next surprise. I would have thought she had outgrown them. I had never played with them. But we sat on the floor of a walk-in cupboard laughing as we made up crazy stories about the Barbies. That's when we found out that we both wanted to be writers when we were older. We both had wild imaginations.

We had a great time that afternoon. Our jaws ached from smiling so much. She showed me her outfits(服装), which had mostly come from a designer clothing store down the block. The woman who owned it sometimes used her as a model for her newspaper ads and gave her clothes in exchange.

Paris charmed the whole neighborhood. The bookstore owners lent her fashion magazines, the movie theater gave her free passes and the pizza place let her have free pieces. Soon I was included in her magic world. We slept over at each other's houses and spent every

free moment together. I let my hair grow out and learned to love being tall.

Paris, my first real friend since childhood, helped me get through my tough teenage years and taught me an amazing thing about making friends: Your \be your best friend.

In a bookstore, we can lose ourselves and forget what time it is. Being surrounded by walls and walls of stories gives us endless chances to find exactly what we are looking for, or a novel we had no idea even existed. Walking up and down a bookstore, we can look at hundreds of covers and read the backs of many different books. We can open a book and

turn the pages, finding a paragraph and seeing if it grabs our attention.

But with online stores and e-books becoming more popular, many find it hard to remember the last time they sat down in a bookstore and enjoyed a peaceful moment.

However, this does not mean that bookstores are losing their appeal. For example, to bring in more readers, Xinhua Bookstore opened a beautiful Fresh Air Bookstore in Baoding, Hebei province earlier this year to help people escape from city life and find somewhere to settle down for a while.

This is just one of the new ways in which people are trying to bring back the world of books in the digital age. According to Qian Xiaohua, who started Librairie Avant-Garde, an independent bookstore based in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, the experience of reading real books may be a good way to bring readers back.

“There is no alternative to replace the touch of different kinds of paper and the smell of print,” Qian said. \themselves slow down and think. Most readers in a bookstore come not only for the books, but also for the atmosphere and social setting. That's the reason why many bookstores are creatively designed or decorated; they want people to communicate with and enrich their inner world.\

When readers shop online, they're often looking for one specific thing. But in a bookstore, they may find a novel that never would have showed up in their search, and that they never would have otherwise read.

“Looking around a store allows us to step out of our comfort zone, sometimes without us even knowing, because so many more choices are given to us in a short walk around the store than on an online search page,” the Elite Daily website reported.

So why not go out and find a story that speaks to you? Pick it up, look through its pages and understand that when you walk out with a book, you're starting a new adventure.

New research suggests that there are only four basic facial expressions of emotion. However, how these expressions are understood might depend on where you are from. Research by scientists from the University of Glasgow in the UK has challenged the traditional view of how the face expresses emotions. Many scientists had believed that there were six basic emotions that people from all cultures recognized. These were happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise and disgust. However, the University of Glasgow's work now suggests that the human face only has four basic expressions of emotion. This is because some pairs of emotions are impossible to tell apart, especially when they are first shown on the face. Fear and surprise, for example, both share wide-open eyes. The facial expressions for anger and disgust also look the same.

So if our faces are only able to express four basic emotions, how do we communicate much more complex feelings? The study found that the way expressions are understood is different in different cultures. Lead researcher Rachael Jack was studying this because \expressions were considered to be universal\she explained. However, while looking at how people from the East and West recognize different parts of the face, they found that although there are some common features across cultures, the six basic facial expressions of emotion are not recognized universally.
