2. Sing the alphabet song Step 3: Games

1. The teacher shows a letter quickly on the screen and asks: What’s this? Get the students to answer the questions like this: I think it’s A/B. Then show the whole of the letter to let the students check whether they’re right or wrong.

2. Go through the letters Aa-Hh quickly, pay attention to the intonation. Then play a game: Listen and pick the right letter, then arrange the letters in the right order and read aloud.

Work on 1a Look for the small letters in the picture for these big letters. Work on 1b Listen and repeat

Ask the students to finish the two tasks.

Work on 1c Make a conversation in pairs according to the picture in 1a. Have two pairs present their dialoue in front of the class. Step 5: Presentation

Teach the letters Ii-Rr by using What’s this in English? It’s Ii/Jj/... Step 6: 2a-2e 1. Finish 2a.

2. 2b Listen to the tape and write the number of the letters in the boxes according to the order in which you hear them. Play the recording twice and check the answer.

3. Look and copy the letters

4. 2d Write the small letters (or big letters) for big letters (small letters). While the students are doing the tasks, the teacher goes around the classroom to check what they are doing.

5. Ask the students to talk about the special letters. A few minutes later, the teacher gets three students to say the meanings of these letters.

Step 1: Greetings

Greet the students as usual. Step 2: Warming up

1. Ask the students to show their letter cards. The teacher speak highly of the students.

2. Sing a song: What’s this? 3. Game: Find out the letters.

The teacher shows the letters very quickly and get the students to call out the letters they see.

4. Group work

The students prepare in four groups, draw some pictures and get the others to guess what letters they are.

Step3: 3a-3e

1. Let the students listen and number the pictures.

2. Get the students to complete the words under the pictures.

3. Play the tape for the students. If they can’t get the answers, play twice. 4. Check the answers.

5. Play the tape again and ask the students to practice it with their partners. 6. Have two pairs go to the blackboard to show their dialogues.

7. Ask the students to listen to the tape again. Then number the words they hear. 8. Talk about the picture by using “What’s this in English? It’s a/an ...” The teacher is ready to offer his/her help to those students who are in need of it.

9. Ask some demonstration groups to show their dialogues before the whole class. Step 4: 拓展提升

T: We have learned four vowel letters. They’re A, E, I, O. Look at the chart and read after the tape. We know letter A pronounced /ei/ and /?/ in different situations. Letter E pronounced /e/ and /i:/ in different situations. What about letter I? Look at the chart on the blackboard.

Let the students try to read the words that are next to “fine” and find more words like these in the “Words and Expressions in each unit”.

4d: Consolidation

Ask the students to read the letters and words. Then try to read the new words in column 2. Step 8: Homework

Review the contents of 4c-4d.
