Hearing the front door open, I ran down to the kitchen and waited. I saw may dad come in, with the white envelope in his hand. I had waited all day for this, so I reached over him for it as soon as he set foot into the house. Angrily, he threw the envelope on the table and said it was nothing to get excited about, and that it was just a piece of paper. I grabbed it and ran upstairs. I wondered why my dad did not understand how anxious I was to see my mid-year report card for my first year in middle school. I was really hurt by how he refused to consider all my hard work.

I saw my class rank (等级) :1/139. I did not believe what I saw. I felt my lip form a smile and wanted to run downstairs to tell everyone. Then I remembered what my dad had said----it was nothing to get excited about. I wanted to share my happiness with someone, but felt lonely.

I realized that I had become distant (远离的) from my family. We used to stay up late watching Disney movies, and my brothers, sisters and I would play tennis in the backyard all the time. I wondered when all that stopped. I just no longer took part in them. My school work used up all my time and energy

While I had been busy with my study, I had also built a wall between me and my family. I was only trying to become a person everyone could be proud of.

I wanted to go downstairs, say sorry for my rude behavior and for every refused movie and tennis game, and be part of my family again. I knew I had to do something ----because without their support, my achievement meant nothing. 1. The word ‘grabbed” has the closest meaning to _________.

C. The writer once spent all his time building a wall. D. The family were all proud of the writer. 5. Which is the best title is the passage?

A. Change Myself First B. Praise Me, Dad

C. My school Report D. Scores, No 1 in life?

You will have a lot of reading to do in this grade this year. You can do more of it in less time if you learn to read rapidly.

Perhaps you have been told about some habits which keep a person from reading fast and have been strongly asked to break those which you might have.

Do you still have any of these bad habits? Check yourself by answering \or \

(1) Do you move your lips (嘴唇) when reading silently? (2) Do you point to words with your finger as you read? (3) Do you move your head from side to side as you read? (4) Do you read one word at a time?

If you answer \habit. If you move your lips, hold your fingers over them, or hold a piece of paper between your lips while you are reading. Then if your lips move, you will know it and can stop them.

If you point to words, hold the two sides of your book, one side with your left hand, the other side with your right hand. Then you won't have a free finger to use in pointing while reading. If you move your head, place your chin in one hand and hold your head still (静止不动的).

If you read no more than one or two three words at a time, you need to work very hard in learning to take in more words at each glance (一瞥) as your eyes travel across the lines of words. Even if you do rather fast now, you can learn to read even faster. As you probably have been told, the fast reading is to take in whole groups of words as each glance. Read in thought groups and force (强迫) your eyes along the lines of words as fast as you can make them go.

Anyone who practices doing these things will be able to read faster. 21. How many fast reading methods(方法) are mentioned in the passage?原创

C(山东省模拟题完型改编)

When animals are excited, angry, scared, or aroused by other feelings, their bodies go through many physical changes. their hearts beat faster, and the muscles get tense. All of these changes make them more alert and ready to react. They also get ready to defend themselves or run. We human beings, just like animals, go through the same physical and mental changes in such situations.

However, human beings have a problem that animals never face. If we give way to our feelings and let them take over, we can get into trouble. Have you ever said something in anger---or hit somebody and regretted it later? Have you ever shouted at a teacher, told somebody you were lonely, or said you were in love, and then wished later you had kept your mouth shut? It isn’t always wise to express your feelings freely.

Does this mean that it’s smarter always to hide our feelings? No! If you keep Ceilings of anger, sadness, and bitterness hidden away or bottled up inside, your body stays tense. Physical illness can develop, and you can feel churned up inside. It can actually be bad for your health, (It isn’t good to keep pleasant feelings inside either; all feelings need to be expressed.)

Feeling that you keep all bottled up inside don’t just go away. It’s as if bought some bananas and stuck them in a cupboard. You might not be able to see them , but before long you’d smell them, if you opened the cupboard, chances are you’d see little fruit flies hovering all over them. They’d be rotten(腐烂).

You can try to treat emotions as if they were bananas in the cupboard. You can hide them and you can pretend they don’t exist, but they’ll still be around. And at last you’ll have to deal with them, just like those bananas.

26. According to the article, we may know that we human beings __________.

A. have fewer problems than animals. B. have the same problems as animals. C. have more problems than animals. D. Have cleverer problems than animals.

27. What does the underlined word “alert” mean in the passage?

A. please B. watchful C. relaxed D. shy 28. When people feel frightened, which statement is false? A. Their hearts beat faster B. Their muscles get tense C. They get ready to protect themselves D. They have few physical changes 29. If you hold in your feelings, ___________ .
