Unit5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came? Section B 2b Do You Remember What You Were Doing?

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen! It’s my great honor to stand here to share my teaching plan with you. I’ll teach Unit 5 Section B 2b. To make my presentation clear, I’ll present my teaching plan from six parts. . I. Analysis of teaching material

The topic of Unit 5 is about unforgettable events. The passage of 2b is about two important events in American history and what common people were doing at the time of important events. Students may be not familiar with

the two events, so I’ll provide some background knowledge when neccesary to arouse students’ learning interests. II. Analysis of the students

Students in Grade 8 have learned present progressive since they were in Grade 7. And they can communicate with others in English, using the simple words and expressions. So it’s not difficult for them to learn past progressive. III. Teaching objectives

According to the teaching material and the students in Grade 8, I designed three objectives: 1.The knowledge objectives:

By the end of this lesson, students can know about the information of Dr, Martin Luther King and the September 11 attack. And they can master the important words and expressions, such as pupil, completely, silence, take down, date, tower and so on. 2. The ability objectives:

(1). To train students’ reading ability:

a. Students can predict “What is the passage about?” with the help of the title and the pictures.

b. Students can retell the main idea of each part after answering questions. C.Students develop the ability of fast reading, intensive reading, looking for information, getting the main ideas, catching the key words and making use of information according to the context.

(2). To improve students’ writing ability. 3. The moral objectives

(1). To oppose the racism and terrorism. (2). To realize the importance of justice and peace. (3). Students learn to love peace, love world, love life IV. Teaching key points and difficult points Key points:

(1). To grasp the new words and expressions.

(2). To know the details and general idea of the passage. Difficult points:

Learn to use simple past tense and past progressive to describe past events.

V. Teaching approaches and learning ways 1. Teaching approaches:

I will adopt task-based language teaching approach,situational teaching approach and audio-visual teaching approach. 2. Learning ways:

Cooperation and self–studying will be involved. VI. Teaching procedures

Step 1 Warming up and leading in 1. Watch a video about a big fire.

2. Lead in the words and expressions through talking what were they

doing.

3.Lead in the text through two dates.

(设计意图:通过身边发生的火灾引导学生用过去进行时提问,复习A部分学习的内容同时导入个别生单词。并用special days来导入课文主题。)

Step 2 Pre-reading

1.Look at the title and pictures to guess. “What’s the passage about?” 2. Read and answer

Read the passage fast and answer the question: What’s the passage about?

A. What people were doing when the two events happened. B. Why these two events happened.

(设计意图:首先让学生根据图片和标题进行预测,再快速阅读把握全文,了解文章中涉及的任务的地点,训练快速阅读的技巧。) Step 3 While-reading

Task 1 : Read the passage and divide the story into two parts.

(设计意图:学生划分段落并通过跳读文段首句获取其大意,从整体上对文章进行把握。)

Task 2:Read part 1and answer:

1).When was Dr.Martin Luther King killed? 2).Where did it happened?

3).What was Robert Allen doing ? 4).How did his parents feel? 5).What did they do?

(设计意图:学生通过阅读了解马丁·路德·金被刺杀这一美国重要的历史事件。体会用一般过去时和过去进行时描述过去的事,并把握描述事件
