The Cultural Differences Between Chinese and English Color Idioms
unavoidably. In our daily life, the color exists everywhere, which is a silent communication. If there is no color existing in the world, the life would become meaningless. The cultural connotation of color depends on time, nation, culture and local life background. What’s more, the idiom is formed through a long time of using and practice by working people, which it relies on the specific social cultural background to a large extent. Moreover, there are mainly seven colors in the world, the world is decorated beautifully by the color, but the same color of idioms is endowed different cultural connotation in different countries.
The purpose of this paper lies in: knowing the cultural connotation of English-speaking countries through color idioms; leading the cultural study into a deeper level; contributing research of color idioms to cultural circle. In this way, we can easily understand English color idioms for a further successful communication. In a word, it is of great significance to study English color idioms which helps promote the ability of cross-cultural communication.
