An Unforgettable Trip

Traveling to other places can always bring me something different. I still remember the unforgettable experience of traveling in Hangzhou.

During the last summer vacation, my mom and I took a high-speed train to Hangzhou. After we settled down in a hotel, we began to travel around the most famous attraction of the city, the West Lake. I was deeply impressed by the beautiful scenery of the West Lake. What’s more surprising was that the scenic beauty blends naturally with many famous historical and cultural sites. In this scenic area, the Grave of General Yue Fei, the Six Harmonies Pagoda and the Ling Yin Temple are probably the most frequently visited attractions.

I enjoyed myself over there and benefited a lot from this travel because I enriched my knowledge about the Chinese culture and deepened the understanding about travel itself.

W: Are you going to the airport by bus or by subway, Arnold? M: I’ll take neither of them. My father is going to drive me there. Text 2

M: I hope it’ll be fine tomorrow. We are having a school sports meet tomorrow. W: Don’t worry. It will be fine. M: Are you sure?

W: Yes. The radio says it will be sunny tomorrow, but windy and rainy the day after tomorrow. Text 3

W: There is something wrong with my computer. M: Would you like me to have a look at it?

W: That’s very kind of you, but my friend Paul will be able to repair it. Text 4

M: Where have you been, Nadia? W: Looking around in the bookshop. M: Did you buy anything?

W: I was considering buying the latest novel by Dan Brown but it was quite heavy and I’d have to carry

it around with me. Then I looked for a crossword puzzle book, but couldn’t find one. In the end I noticed a front-page article in today’s New York Times.

M: You mean that you only bought the newspaper then?

W: Yes. Look, Thomas, why don’t you read the part of business while I catch up on the news? M: I’d rather read something about sports. W: OK. Here you are. Text 5

Hello, everyone. Welcome to Central London Hospital Radio. Before our music program at four, I’m going to repeat some of our hospital rules. Visiting hours are in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 and in the evening from 7:00 to 8:00. Please remember only two guests are allowed to see you at one time. Sorry if you don’t feel comfortable with this, but the rules have been made to make sure you get the best possible care.

The following rules will fit your daily schedule during your stay here at our hospital. We start pretty early. You will wake up at 6 o’clock, breakfast is at 8 o’clock, and lunch is at noon, there’s tea at 3:30 and supper is at 6 o’clock. You can see the non-smoking sign—we don’t allow smoking in any area of the hospital. If your guests feel they need to smoke, they will have to leave the hospital to do so. Anyone who breaks the rule will be punished.

Lastly, from everyone in our hospital, we wish you a comfortable stay and a speedy recovery. Text 6

M: Hello, Alice!

W: Hello, Harrison! I haven’t heard from you for a long time. How are you doing? M: Fine. I’m calling to see if you’d like to have dinner with me this evening. W: Why not? Where?

M: Let’s go to the Chinese Restaurant in King Street. W: Is it very far from my place? How can I get there?

M: Not very far and you can walk there in 10 minutes. Leave your office and turn right. Then go along Queen Street. Turn down Green Street and take the second turning on the right. That’s King Street.

W: Wait... wait. Turn down Green Street and take the second turning on the right. M: Right. And the restaurant is on the corner, next to the Sun Hotel.

W: Next to the Sun Hotel. Good, see you at ... M: 6:30, OK?

W: I’m sorry. Could you make it a little later? M: No problem. What about 7:00 then?

W: OK, thank you for your invitation. See you then. M: It’s my pleasure. See you. Text 7

W: Good afternoon. Can I help you?

M: Good afternoon. My name is Kelvin Jones. I booked a room by Internet yesterday. W: Welcome to the Armitage Hotel, Mr. Jones. Can you spell your first name please? M: Certainly. K-E-L-V-I-N.

W: Thank you. Do you have your booking number? M: Yes, of course. It’s double 7-2381.

W: Now, today’s the 21st of July and I see you’ve booked a double room for three nights on the fifth floor, 501.

M: Really? I booked a double room? I usually only have a single room. W: It’s the off-season, Mr. Jones and we’ve changed your room for free. M: How nice! Thank you very much.

W: You’re welcome. We’ll do our best to make your stay here as comfortable as possible.

M: Thank you. By the way, would you arrange a taxi for me for tomorrow morning? I’ll attend an important meeting at 9 o’clock at the International Business Centre.

W: No problem. It’s only 10-minute drive. A taxi will take you at 8:45 tomorrow morning at the gate of the hotel. All right?

M: OK. Thank you very much.
